Ways to take care of yourself POST massage
You’ve just gotten out of your delicious treatment, and you're feeling better and more connected in your body- now what? Here are a few ways to continue the healing and processing post- treatment.
Drink plenty of water- This should be an all day everyday, but especially after any (physical) therapy treatment. Drinking water hydrates your skin, muscle, cells, and overall being. Keeping hydrated also allows nutrients to more freely flow through your body and cells, making it easier for your cells to dispose of unwanted metabolites, and receive the vitamins and minerals you need.
Light movement- Gentle movement like walking, light swimming, easy yoga are all great ways to incorporate some movement and mobility after a treatment. I wouldn’t “recommend” crushing it in the gym directly after your treatment, but it can be beneficial to get things moving, and your muscles contracting and strengthening to continue on your healing journey.
DO your homecare! If your therapist sent you home with some exercises or advice, put it into action. These movements were tailor made for your condition and will continue to help you heal.
Epsom salts Bath- This can be extra juicy if you are feeling some more tension or soreness post treatment. Taking a relaxing bath can help continue to calm the nervous system, and heat will encourage your muscles to relax and release. Epsom salts are an added bonus as your skin absorbs the magnesium your body needs to aid in muscle contractions- meaning less muscle spasms and less cramps, and faster healing!
You might feel a little sluggish or tired after a treatment, this is NORMAL. Going through the above protocols should help get you re embodied, but if you are still feeling a little lethargic, honour that! Take some time for yourself- have a nap, take a rest and really allow your body to recover for the remainder of 24-48 hours post treatment.
